Loft Insulation with global-uk-resources

Good Loft insulation is very important in retaining the valueable heat you create in your home between 25-26% leaks away from an uninsulated roof space.

Modern Government guidelines recommend at least 270mm or approx 10/12 inches to be effective. grants are usually available for lofts that have less than 60mm in already although some companies will still install new insulation if the existing is up to 100mm. Some will do various top ups for example adding another 100  or 150mm to the existing if it is over the level limits.

However they recieve very little if any subsidy for this work from the utility companies and so have to charge more than their usual or best deal which has the highest grant/susbidy.

You may be thinking that your loft will be a pain to do: This is because there's too much stuff up there.  What is often the case is that most people store there items close to the hatch for convieience and therefore whenever they look in to get the xmas tree or suitcase etc all they can see are the items stored.  What should be remembered is lots of the boxes stored in the attic taking up space are empty.  These were probably stored when you bought something and kept the box in case you had to take it back.

The other culprit is often your family that have moved out or just moved and lumbered you with all their stuff.  They have probably been in their own place for a few years but have never bothered to come and sort out their stuff because most of it was of little importance anyway.

Remember this clutter is a very expensive storage solution: It costs you up to £200 per year on your heating bill to keep items that have never seen the light of day for years and probably never will?

Also remember: If you haven't had the items stored or dumped in the loft down for years, will you ever if you are actually truthful with yourself?  It is a great time to think about a clear out and who knows you may find all sorts of things that can be sold at auction or on ebay.  Just like the tv show cash in the attic. You might even do someone a good turn with your unwanted goods rather than have them go to waste.

If you cannot access the attic: You might be able to get a family member to help if this is not an option you could contact the local council or the Scouts group and they may be able to offer some assistance.  Even if this incurrs a small charge and you are not able to offset this by selling any items of value it will still be worth it so you can have your loft insulated or it might be another 20 years before something is done.  This would cost thousands of pounds over the years and waste many tons of CO2 which harms the environment.

Lastly if you do not have a hatch or it is to small: We can usually arrange to have this work done this will be a chargeable extra and is normally less than £150 including materials.  We have even recently successfully worked on a farmhouse where the ceiling was far from standard and was in fact made from bull rushes or reeds.  (The exact cost would be explained at one of our free survey's)
